The Lycoming
County Democrats are asking Democrats to help us build the base for a strong
voter turnout in our primary and general election in November. We are not
asking for hours and hours of your time, but what we want is to find Democrats
who are willing to serve as Neighborhood Leaders for their area.
What do Neighborhood
Leaders do? The most important thing they do is connect with their neighbors
to encourage and increase voter turnout. This “connecting” can be done
in whatever way you want. It can be by mail, by email, by phone or by personal
contact. Whatever way YOU feel most comfortable!
We understand that,
like us, you’re busy. That’s why we only ask you to do what you can.
How can you help?
Here are some of the things you can do:
-
Help your neighbors
get registered to vote, update their address with Voter Services or apply
for an absentee ballot.
-
Create an e-mail or
phone list of neighbors to help pass on information about Democratic events
and candidates.
-
Distribute literature
or yard signs in your neighborhood for candidates.
If you want to join
us, please e-mail jbloom320@comcast.net

Often times,
the political attention in our county is focused on the greater Williamsport
area, but Lycoming County, which is bigger than the state of Rhode Island,
consists of many communities. From Cedar Run to Unityville, from Trout
Run to Elimsport, there are many smaller communities throughout the county
that need the support of local Democrats. So, how can you get involved?
First, whether you
live in a township or a borough, there is always a need for qualified candidates
to run for local office. Whether the office is that of mayor, councilperson,
supervisor, assessor, tax collector, or auditor, the importance of having
dedicated office holders with the integrity to serve in the best interest
of their community cannot be understated. Recently, there has been a shortage
of candidates for school boards, which is particularly troublesome - for
as
Robert Kennedy said,
"Each Generation makes its own accounting to its children."
You might also consider
serving as a Democratic committee person in your local ward if you are
interested in party politics. Each ward in the county should have one committeewoman
and one committeeman. These individuals are charged with sustaining and
building the Democratic Party at the grass roots level by registering Democratic
voters, recruiting and supporting qualified, honest candidates for office,
and working to get the voters to the polls. The committee people also elect
the county party leadership, and in that and other ways help shape the
county party. Currently, there are a number of open positions for Democratic
committee people that need to be filled. If you are interested, please
contact the County Chairwoman, Jesse Bloom, or any committee person you
know.
By working together
in support of our Democratic candidates and each other, we will continue
to build a stronger party throughout the county and improve the quality
of life in Lycoming County.
